Here, the law stands as an abstract entity, immutable and omnipresent, casting a formidable shadow over all who dare approach its threshold. Foucault’s discourse on power further illuminates this labyrinth of control, revealing how the law is not merely a set of rules but a mechanism of domination, shaping and molding society according to its dictates. It is a panoptic force, surveilling and disciplining individuals into compliance, instilling a pervasive sense of fear and obedience. Before the law, individuals confront a paradoxical reality. They are simultaneously drawn towards its elusive promise of justice and repelled by its impenetrable barriers. Each step towards the threshold is fraught with uncertainty, as the law remains forever beyond reach, forever beyond comprehension. In this liminal space, time loses its meaning, and the self is stripped bare, laid bare before the unfathomable gaze of the law. Here, existential dread intertwines with the absurd, blurring the boundaries between reality and illusion, between freedom and captivity.Before the law, we are all condemned to wander, forever seeking Odyssey—a ritual known as the Nekyia, which recounts Odysseus's voyage to the land of the Cimmerians at the edge of the world, a place shrouded in eternal darkness. The purpose of his journey is to consult the blind prophet Tiresias about his return to Ithaca. Yet, unlike other ancient heroes such as Heracles, Odysseus and his crew never literally descend into the underworld. Instead, they remain on the surface, and the dead come to them. The Nekyia essentially describes an ascent: the souls of the underworld rise toward the land of the living. Odysseus seeks the dead out of a longing for home (nostos), while the dead rise to the surface driven by a longing for life itself. These opposing paths mirror a shared human impulse—a leap beyond logic and nature, bound together by memory and loss. This project was developed during an artist's residency in Ithaca, Greece, during the COVID-19 pandemic—a period that brought about a profound and unsettling sense of lost time. Marked by uncertainty and isolation, days blended seamlessly into one another. This lost time was not merely about delayed plans, but about experiences and connections that could never be recaptured. Forced to slow down, we were confronted with our own priorities and the fragility of everyday life. Masahiro Mori. Mori coined the term&nbsp;“uncanny valley” to describe his observation that as robots appear more humanlike, they become more appealing—but only up to a certain point. Upon reaching the uncanny valley, our affinity descends into a feeling of strangeness, a sense of unease, and a tendency to be scared or freaked out. So the uncanny valley can be defined as people’s negative reaction to certain lifelike robots, virtual characters or even rocks and trees that resembles human figures.&nbsp;This book is about that Sea that is famous for its natural, geological environment and its strong theological traditions. While visiting Tinos, I was in a period of deep grief and mourning. While I was there, I felt the urge to depict the otherworldly atmosphere of the island and the impression it had to me.&nbsp; Travelling around the island with only the sea as the limit of my wanderings, I visited as many of the villages and natural landmarks as I could reach. Starting from the very first day on the island, I felt the strong presence of the metamorphic marble that surrounded me. Metamorphic rocks are created when existing rock types change their form and composition—marble is metamorphic.&nbsp; While I was in Tinos I started noticing optical patterns around me. Patterns on the rocks next to the sea, on the water itself, the shape of plants and fabrics—all of these dissimilar materials all reminded me of marble. It was like everything on that island were connected with that metamorphic rock; even some portraits of people I shot had a similar aura. In Greece, marble is a decorative material that wealthy people use broadly in their houses and offices to demonstrate their power and wealth. Because Tinos is geologically full of a unique green marble, it is found everywhere in the island—in churches, museums, summer houses, banks, etc. It is also used in tombs and monuments; all of the cemeteries are full of marble tombstones. Thus, the marble is a vital part of both life and death. The ephemeral use of marble as a way to demonstrate money and power seems to lead (unavoidably) to death, where marble serves as an eternal weight that will stand on top of a tomb.&nbsp; Being in a island made me especially aware of the metamorphic rock and triggered in me a series of thoughts about human nature and about living. My personal catharsis came as the result of a metamorphosis, as I moved from a grieving period to an attitude of positive thinking about what is important in life. This series of photos is the narration of that experience. painting entitled Angelus Novus (New Angel). The depiction of an angel that seems incapable of intervening in what is happening in the present time. A distant observer from above that seems to sympathize, but is unable to interact. In the modern landscape, the Europeans are experiencing a mute crisis that threatens the structures and values of the European Union. The initial intentions and promises of the union about cooperation and solidarity are overturned at the altar of profit and fear. Fear about diversity and about an "external threat". Nowadays the role of the distant observer is adopted by common people. The question remains whether a citizen should act, rebel, protest or should stay neutral, "civilised" and unnoticed. The photographer in this project acts as a medium that objectively reflects the dystopian image of now while he manages to stay unnoticed . Close to a bay or estuary. Maybe even an island in Aegean sea that is constantly transforming because of touristic industry. There are people living there that are so familiar with the repetitive sound of the waves that are barely noticing it. Waves coming and go, for years, carrying boats and visitors. All those places are full of childhood memories, and hopes for enjoyable leisure time. It can also be the point of entering of immigrants where their hopes are about finding a better life far from their countries. These places by the sea are the embers of hopes, sweet memories or nightmares. Seaside is their scene. It’s a place where he used to walk and where one could imagine his father walking, triggered by the sounds of the stones and the shingles. “That’s what hell will be like,” he ponders, “small chat to the babbling of Lethe about the good old days when we wished we were dead”. Samuel Beckett's play "Embers" is taking place next to the sea. The splashing of the waves is the only sound that can be heard. The main character of the play is remembering the people that were important for him in his life, his father, his wife. The sea played for him a significant role in life and death. role of subconscious in everyday life. Based on an ancient Greek myth that inspired the name of a psychological phenomenon. L e r n a e a n H y d r a was a gigantic, nine-headed waterserpent, a chthonic creature. It is associated with the underworld, and therefore symbolic with the subconscious. Hydra appears to be the shadow, or the ugly side of the ego which the individual does not accept as themselves and tries so hard to suppress. Hercules attempted to kill it by cutting the heads from the Hydra with the result being that multiple heads regrowned from each severed neck. In a symbolic way we are seeing the result of one who tries to destroy the shadow instead of assimilating it. From a psychological standpoint, you cannot destroy the shadow caused by anger, rejection and frustration, you cannot remove the negative. Instead, the individual has to accept these features of the psyche and bring them under his own control. Life can be a constant fight between shadow and light with creativity to be the only temporary remedy for thatfight till the very end
